Lauren Chitwood
Assistant to the President |
|
Lauren came to Washington from England, where she received her master's degree in Latin American Studies from Oxford University. Lauren's research focused on political autonomy among Nicaragua's Miskitu Indians. She completed her bachelor's degree in International Studies at Hawai'i Pacific University, focusing on Latin American and Asian political history.
After graduate school, Lauren wanted to be sure that she returned to the roots of why she chose to specialize in Latin American politics–––working with immigrant communities and helping them thrive. Growing up in Alabama, she volunteered teaching English to Hispanic immigrants and organizing events to build awareness of the region and its people. In her free time, Lauren enjoys horseback riding and outdoor activities. |
