Since 2004, HCN has assisted US Forest Service (USFS) Conservation Education (CE) in expanding its Hispanic outreach efforts. Our teams collaborate with CE to design and execute a culturally and linguistically relevant communications strategy to engage US Spanish-speakers in USFS programs and activities, with a special focus on Firewise/ National Fire Plan messages; Managed Recreation; and, Urban and Community Forestry (UCF). To this end, HCN delivers national Spanish-language radio campaigns featuring HCN-CE segments to reach and engage Hispanic audiences in urban and rural areas throughout the US and Puerto Rico in the USFS’ public awareness and education initiatives. HCN has also collaborated with CE to conduct formative evaluations with focus groups to measure the effectiveness of the radio campaign messages and make post-production edits on tested radio segments.
