Jeff Kline’s exposure to the power of media came during his participation in the Free Speech Movement at the University of California in Berkeley in the mid 1965 that won university students the right to organize for civil rights on campus. While completing a degree in philosophy at the new campus of the University of California in Santa Cruz, Kline also won the 1968 primary election as the Peace and Freedom candidate for the California legislature.

After earning a Masters in Education at New Mexico Highlands University, Kline taught High School English in Mora, a district with 100% Hispanic enrollment. In 1979 he helped found the Self Reliance Foundation as a non-profit educational organization using multi-media approaches to provide education to Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and other under-served minorities.

Kline produced more than 8 documentary films in English and Spanish, some of which were shown worldwide by the United Nations, and also produced a number of award winning public education campaigns using multi-media approaches combining film, television, radio, billboards and community events.

He served as media consultant for more than 14 statewide and federal races and helped elect two Chief Justices of the New Mexico Supreme Court, the Attorney General, the Congressman representing the Capitol and others.

In 1982 he founded the Hispanic Radio Network to syndicate Spanish radio programs nationwide. Kline personally produced and engineered over 10,000 Spanish-language radio programs. In the 1990’s their work expanded to include live broadcasts linking South and North America. In 2000 Hispanic Radio Network entered into an operating agreement with what is now Univision Communications (NYSE:UVN) that provided for Univision Radio to air public interest programs produced by Hispanic Radio Network seven days a week during prime time on Univision Radio’s news talk stations in major markets.
