Self Reliance Foundation and Hispanic Communications Network Announce Addition of Two Veteran Fund Raisers to the Staff

Brigitte Savage and Caroline Jarboe Join Public/Private Partnership To Assist in Outreach/Development for Social Marketing Campaigns

Washington, D.C. --  Two veteran fund raisers, Brigitte Savage, CFRE and Caroline Jarboe have recently joined the fund raising team of the Self Reliance Foundation in association with its for-profit media partner, the Hispanic Communications Network (HCN).  HCN and the Self Reliance Foundation work together in a unique for-profit/non-profit partnership dedicated to empowering disadvantaged communities through the development and dissemination of culturally compelling social marketing campaigns.

“We are thrilled to add Brigitte and Caroline to our staff,” noted Jeff Kline, founder and chairman of the Self Reliance Foundation.  “Their combined expertise in fundraising and development will help us better serve Latino audiences for our social marketing campaigns by helping us broaden the scope and reach of our campaigns.  Additionally, they will play a key role in helping us tap international donors for our Arabic and Farsi language Middle East media projects.”

Carlos Alcazar, president of the Hispanic Communications Network added: “Through outreach to our more than 200 Spanish-language radio stations, HCN has helped direct socially-relevant messages on topics ranging from health and nutrition to gang violence to education to millions of U.S.-based Latinos.  Brigitte’s experience with international non-profits and Caroline’s eight-years of securing support for NPR will help us further reach Latinos with national social marketing campaigns on issues of importance to the community.”

Ms. Savage joins the Self Reliance Foundation as Director of Development.  She has more than two decades of fund raising experience, most recently as director of development for Global Rights, an international human rights advocacy organization with offices in ten countries and programs in many more.  Before that, she served for eight years as vice president for membership and development at Independent Sector, a national leadership forum for nonprofit organizations, where she was responsible for membership recruitment and planning, organizing and implementing the organization’s special events and fund raising activities. Previously, Ms. Savage served as director of development at the Older Women’s League (OWL) and for nine years as membership director for the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

Ms. Jarboe joins The Self Reliance Foundation after eight years at National Public Radio (NPR), where she most recently served as Senior Development Associate.  At NPR, Jarboe worked with the nation’s major private foundations including the Ford Foundation, Carnegie Corporation, and the Pew Charitable Trusts, and she was a central development staff member in charge of writing about NPR’s news coverage plans, particularly with respect to reporting on international affairs; children, youth, families; education; and religion.  She graduated from Tulane University with a B.A. in American Studies and received an MFA from the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program.  Under her maiden name Caroline Langston, Jarboe is a widely published writer and essayist, and has been a commentator for NPR’s All Things Considered.
