Media & Affiliate Relations (Bilingual) – Part Time Freelance or Internship

Hispanic Communications Network (HCN), the leading “edu-tainment” cause marketing firm
serving Latinos in the US, is searching for passionate, bright, and creative individuals to join our
Affiliate and Media Relations team’s Social Impact work. We help inform and inspire Latinos
and Hispanics in the US to improve their lives and their communities through personal action
and engagement related to health, safety, environment, education, financial literacy, civic
engagement, immigration and social justice.

Job/Internship Description
Your core focus and responsibility is to assist HCN’s Affiliates and Media Relations team to
increase our base of radio stations, newspapers, social media and digital affiliates that
distribute our short-format informational & educational Spanish-language radio segments and
long form talk shows, as well as our weekly newspaper columnas and our social media content.
You may also work on media relations campaigns to secure earned/donated media for
interviews with celebrities and experts related to health, safety, and other social issues. Other
HCN staff with whom you will collaborate include team members from our Social Media and
Multimedia Production departments.
Main Roles and Responsibilities:
● Perform pitch calls and follow up calls with the media (Spanish and English)
● Track media hits and evaluate circulation and impressions
● Assist with gathering affidavits and clippings from affiliates
● Assist with call screening during our national radio call-in shows Dra Isabel and
Bienvenidos a America (Spanish)
● Update our Editorial Calendar
● Maintain department data
● Assist creating reports and analytics
● Updating and organizing media lists and contacts
● Review pitch materials such as press releases, media advisories and spokesperson
bios (Spanish and English)
● Review weekly shipment of daily Spanish-language radio mini-programas
● Other duties as assigned

 
Minimum Requirements – Skills/Knowledge/Traits:
● Native and/or advanced Spanish-proficiency mandatory, both written and oral
● Passionate about creating positive social impact and empowering Latino
communities
● Knowledge working in communications/PR environment or office setting
● Proficient with Google Drive / Google for Business, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel,
Word), etc.
● Excellent verbal and writing skills
● Well-organized, solid time manager to perform well in fast paced work environment
● Ability to meet fast deadlines
● Attention to detail a must
Internships in Washington, DC:
You will define how many hours a week you can devote of your own time and how many hours
a week you can work at the HCN Headquarters. If your professor will give you extra credit or an
independent study, HCN staff can provide Academic oversight to allow you to receive academic
credit as well as a stipend.
Employment opportunities may evolve for an intern who excels in meeting goals we set and
mutually agree upon at the beginning of your internship.
Freelance Part-time:
Qualified applicants only. This job can be setup as part time freelance work at $12/hour.
